FLOOD PACKETS FOR FORT MILL NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS
This week we read about the flood that hit Kandahar Province in Afghanistan where our Fort Mill soldiers are serving. We have been told that they have lost most of their personal possessions, including letters, pictures, laptop computers and cameras and clothing. We cannot help with those items. But we can prepare packets with personal care items that will make them more comfortable. St John's UMC has just collected similar packets to go to Haiti. Now we can do it again, this time for some of our own, our National Guard troops from Fort Mill. There is another unit with them from the Spartenburg area who also need help. Three to four hundred packets would not be too many for both units. The folks at the Fort Mill Armory say these are the items most needed NOW.
A hand towel (about 16" x 25')
A comb (good and sturdy, not a pocket comb)
Fingernail clippers and/or a nail file (not toenail clippers or emery boards)
A bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
An adult size toothbrush in the package.
A large tube of toothpaste.
Deodorant
A package of disposable razors
Shaving creme
White socks (one size fits all), a soldier can always use a pair of clean dry socks.
A small bottle of hand sanitizer.
Pack all of these in a heavy-duty gallon size ziplock plastic bag and drop off at the church.
